The Milk Pail Farm and Orchard on Horsemill Lane in Water Mill is run by the Halsey family, whose roots in the Mecox area go back to the 1640s. Its u-pick fields for apples, pumpkins and sunflowers are open every weekend in 2026 from Labor Day weekend through Halloween weekend, weather permitting.
Do we need a reservation to pick?
No, reservations are not required. Check the farm's announcements before heading over, since it posts weather closures and a list of what is ready to pick.
Is it open on Columbus Day?
Yes. The u-pick farm is open on Monday, October 12, in addition to its usual weekends.
Can we pick anywhere in the orchard?
Stay in the open areas. A roped-off section means those apples are still ripening, so the farm asks pickers to leave them alone.
What pumpkins grow there?
The pumpkin list runs from tiny Jack Be Little and Baby Boo to Big Max, Cinderella, Jarrahdale and Fairytale, plus gourds and squash such as butternut, acorn and spaghetti.
